How can simplify the tax code?

Is this simple enough? Over the years there has been different flat tax proposals. Steve Forbes promoted it when he ran for president. As you can see in the above example how much easier filling out that form than the regular 1040 form we fill out. As it appears in line 4, the is one exemption, poverty.

Another idea that is promoted promoted by groups like www.fairtax.org, replacing all taxes with a national consumption tax. Promoters are argue it would make things easier for everyone.

Here is what would make things easier, get rid of all the deductions and penalties except for the poverty exemption. While the fairtax seeks to make things easier, it could hurt people below the poverty line by increasing prices.

Obama, Democrats and their thin skin

During the 2008 presidential election we heard how Obama was going to unit us. Obama said he was going to listen to people who disagree with him as well as people who agree with him. Voters was so inspired that they elected him.
I, like other Republicans, was not sold. Out of the concerns I had about Obama, one concern I predict would come true has. I predicted that no one will be able to criticize Obama and the Democrats with out being called extreme, irrational and/or racist. Over the last two years everyone Tea Party participant was called everything from hater to racist. After the shooting in Arizona, Democrats blamed Palin, Glenn Beck and every out spoken conservative/ Tea Party participant for creating an environment filled with hate and racism.
I want to turn you attention to two videos to compare:

As you can see, both Republican Sarah Palin and Democrat Steve Cohen used the term, "blood libel," but Cohen does not get as much attention for his use as Palin did for hers. What about Representative Weiner speech before the House floor last week

Why should Republicans, conservatives, and Tea Party participants get blame for their rhetoric but not liberals and Democrats?
I say to my fellow Republicans, stand strong and don't be discouraged from expressing your self.

In what elections should noncitizens be allowed to vote?

In some cities across America, noncitizens are allowed to in local election. For example, noncitizens are allowed to vote in Chicago's municipal election. On November 2nd, voters in Portland, Maine and San Francisco, California would have the opportunity to decide whether on not they want to allow noncitizens to vote in local elections. San Francisco's ballot would a low noncitizens vote in the school board election if they have children in school.

When I was a student at UMSL, I ran for Student Senate with my Korean roommate. He was not a citizen of this country at the time but he was a student; therefore, he was allowed to vote in the campus' election just like any other student on campus. With that in mind, San Francisco might want to consider how they can allow all parents, wether or no they are citizens of this country, to vote in school board election without involving the local election board. They could set something up within the schools where all parents are eligible to vote.

I only lost the battle

I lost the Republican primary, but there is a lot to be grateful about. A lot of voters support my effort to legalize medical marijuana, support public transportation and oppose eminent domain abuse. I'm diagnosed with autism and I attended the special needs school district when I was a child. So there are issues which I look at through a prism of one with a disability:

*I'm a strong supporter of public transportation. I supported Proposition A, the County's halve cent sales tax to restore and improve metro services. Furthermore, I support trolley systems and Bus Rapid Transit. Metro services are vitally important for people to get to work and go to school and can't drive.

*When I attended school my parents were involved and I benefited form their involvement. I don't think parental involvement is talked about enough. Without parental involvement, it's going to be hard to make improvements to the metropolitan schools. That being said, I support any educational alternative that will benefit a child in educational advancement.
I'm proud to announce that Citizens for Educational Freedom has me down as in favor of school choice for all parents. I believe all schools, public, private, and charter schools, should be held accountable.
When there is a shortfall in funding, I will support increase in funding. That is why I ask all city voters to vote yes on Prop. S, a school bond to improve the schools.

*While this issue is not exclusively effect people with disabilities, we are effected. I believe we need to make it easier for people to vote: this will include but not limited to making ballots in languages other than English, a voter ID law that does not disenfranchise voters and allowing people to voter absentee without requiring them to get a the absentee ballot notarized.

One more thing, I am the only candidate, Democrat or Republican, who is on record in support of legalizing medical marijuana.

Stop the credit chects.

On March 29th of this year, Oregon Governor signed a law that prohibit employers from doing credit checks on job applicants. Now Oregon residence have an easier time getting a job. Supporters point out that well qualified applicants could have bad credit history.
Opponents argue that credit history can indicate whether or not the applicant is financial responsible, have good judgment, or risk abusing drugs or gambling. Lets dissect this argument.
1. It’s hard to be financial responsible if you’re out of work. Employing people makes them financially responsible. Moreover, to say that bad credit indicates bad decision really without knowing whether the circumstances what gave the applicant a bad credit score is wrong.
2. So you didn’t use your coupons when you went to the store, that makes you unqualified to work? I think we need to be careful before we make judgment against people.
I think Missouri and the whole nation should prohibit employers from doing credit checks. As state representative, not only I would introduce a bill to ban credit checks, but I would include in the bill the option to opt out of paying taxes until all old dept is paid back to collectors. This would not only make it easier to pay the money back, but it should increase the employees credit.

I want to legalize marijuana

I want to legalize marijuana because the status quo is too costly for tax payers and unjust to civilians.
In the state of Missouri, cuts are being made to programs support people, like education. I understand that Missouri can't spend money we don't have, but maybe cuts could be made in other places instead, like the criminal justice system.
Currently, there is a city wide ballet initiative to decriminalize marijuana in the St. Louis city. Under the proposal, if caught with 35 grams of less with marijuana, a user would not get arrested for it, but could be fined. The benefit of this is we are not wasting tax payers' dollars filling up jails over marijuana.
Another proposal is to legalize medical marijuana. This benefits patients who need to use it without the fear of going to prison. While is saves tax payers dollars, it does not save as much as if we legalize marijuana.
If marijuana would were to be legalize, Missouri as well as the rest of the nation would not only save money, but earn money form the taxes collected. Legalizing marijuana would reduce people from being criminalized for nonviolent and non-disruptive crimes. That is why the NAACP endorsed legalizing marijuana.

Anti-Obama care proposition would be on August ballot.

According to subtitle F, Part I, section 1501 of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, the new health care reform law that was signed into law by Barak Obama, everyone is required to have health insurance or face a $750 fine. On August 3rd, Missouri voters will have the opportunity to voice opposition to this section by voting on Proposition C. The initiative reads:

Shall the Missouri Statutes be amended to:

* Deny the government authority to penalize citizens for refusing to purchase private health insurance or infringe upon the right to offer or accept direct payment for lawful healthcare services?
* Modify laws regarding the liquidation of certain domestic insurance companies?

It is estimated this proposal will have no immediate costs or savings to state or local governmental entities. However, because of the uncertain interaction of the proposal with implementation of the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, future costs to state governmental entities are unknown.

Recently, I interviewed to experts on opposing side of this issue. John Payne is a research assistant at the Show-Me Institute. The Show-Me Institute is a research and educational institute dedicated to improving the quality of life for all citizens of Missouri by advancing sensible, well-researched solutions to state and local policy issues. He is oppose to the new law.
Gaylard Williams, is an experience attorney and actively involved in politics. He is in support of he new law. I interviewed John First.

Damien: Why should the voters oppose individual mandates?

John: Well I think you should look at this and ask why should the votes oppose more government involvement in health care because if you are going if your going to have a system where you are going to tell insurance companies that you must cover everyone regardless of preexisting conditions, the only way your going to make the work is with an individual mandate. But that care a whole host of other problems. For one, it’s a significant expansion in federal power. It’s unprecedented for the government to say; in order to live you must buy this product. People use this analogy and say, “Well, it’s like car insurance.” Well that is not entirely true. For one, that states require care insurance. Another, you don’t drive. Driving is a privilege, not a right. You don’t have to drive. I think we should oppose the whole package, not just the individual mandate. But that is certainly one of the worst aspects of the health care bill.

Damien: We’ll only be voting on the individual mandate.

John: True, but I think it will be beneficial in the since that it might cause the whole law to be repealed. I think that got to be the ultimate goal. Maybe not every single part of it. There are some beneficial parts, but the must insure parts, we got to take them out.

Damien: Couldn’t we have the rest of the part of the bill with out the individual mandate or vice versa?

John: I don’t think without the individual mandate, you could have a system where the insurers have to insure everybody. Now if we want to cover everybody, I think that is the goal of the law, you could just give the poor or people who do have catastrophic, preexisting conditions from birth, you could give them some type of government assistance, a voucher. But to impose a law that says the insurance have to cover, will be a lost on the insurance companies and ultimately, the insurance companies costumers. If we want to that, I think it should be straight form the government. Which essentially what Medicaid was design for. If we do that better, we could avoid a system where the insurance companies commanded to do all these things.
Damien: How would we go about doing that better?
John: Basically, we need to get government out of health care aside from the small parts where it’s just about helping out the poor and someone with catastrophic, preexisting conditions. So I think we need to retrench Medicare because as a group, seniors are actually the richest part of the population. Not to say that some of the seniors don’t need help, but there is no reason automatically at 65, you automatically go on the government payroll. So I think we need to start thinking about how we can roll that back. And there is a lot of good evidence that suggest that Medicare have not been successful at getting more health care to seniors but it had it successful at driving up cost and diverting more income towards doctors. So if we do that, we can save more money and put more money in to people who really need it.

Damien: If we all were covered, would insurance be cheaper?

John: No, I don’t think so. Because there is a limit on supply. If every one is buying insurance, at some point the price has to go up. Demand goes up and supply stay constant. You might get less coverage, less hospital beds, doctor visit or the price would have to go up. So you would have to reduce the amount of actual care or raise the price.

Damien: People without health insurance shows up to the emergency rooms and get care on the backs of the people with health insurance. Without a mandate, support argue, people with insurance will continue to pay. How do you respond to that point and what is your alternative?

John: regardless of people mandate there or not, people are going to continue to pay for people without health insurance anyway. I don’t think people without health insurance are going to get health insurance even with a mandate. The fact is, the penalty for the mandate is not that it’s is not as steep as for people who have to pay car insurance. So most people are going to just pay the penalty and move on. So you might be getting some tax money to offset some cost through penalty but there is still going to be a drain on the system that is covered by everyone else. Even if they do by health insurance they, would probably be heavily subsidized for it so everyone is paying the cost for it anyway. So one way or another, you’re still paying the cost. So it might encourage to get preventative care. The best system for that, it has been shown is high deductable plans combined with a health savings account. This bill seems to go in the opposite direction. High deductable plans only covers catastrophic things. It’s there when you need it. It encourages people to stay healthy because you get sick, you’ll have to pay more out of pocket. So that it provides an incentive to stay healthy. So it’s one of my alternatives to the health care plan we have going now. So encourage people to get health insurance that doesn’t cover everything. The idea that insurance company should cover regular checkups is can of insane. If something is regular and predictable, it should not be insured. Insurance are for things you can’t predict; something that comes out of now where it not sure that something is going to happen. You may have a incentive to avoid high health care cost by paying more out of pocket.

Damien: What if paying out of pocket is a strain on the individuals? A lot of people take advantage of Medicaid or Blue Cross/ Blue Shield so they can show up to the dentist, the emergency room, or regular checkups without paying out of pocket.

John: If they are below the poverty line, I don’t have problem with the government subsidizing them. I would say, it would be a better idea is to instead of having the government having an insurance plan, is to give out vouchers for people to buy insurance which would bring competition to the market. I do think there must be some out of pocket cost if you are going to be on government assistance even if it comes in the form of government money because you need that incentive to use to prevent people from over using the system.

The following is from Gaylard. Please be advised that he did not take a position on how much the fine should because he haven't seeing enough details of the law. But he did provide valuable information relating to the constitutionality of both the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and Prop. C.

Damien: Where do the federal government get its authority to mandate someone to buy health insurance?

Gaylard: Commerce Clause, that is the basis of regulating a lot of business. Actually, People don’t realize is, the Commerce clause is the backbone of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. Through the Civil Right Act, congress was able to outlaw discrimination of private and as well as public facilities. Whenever there is an issue, state have been using the 10th understates rights. Congress have used the Commerce Clause many times to try to address social problems; problems that are to big for any one state to handle. Whether the mandate is constitutional or not is best addressing the issue by sending the matter to the Supreme Court. If the Supreme Court would find the law is unconstitutional, it would strict down the law. So, this seems like a road block, a legal roadblock, that this state and other state would prevent enforcement of the mandate. It’s interesting that one of he paragraphs here say, “It is estimated this proposal will have no immediate costs or savings to state or local governmental entities. However, because of the uncertain interaction of the proposal with implementation of the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, future costs to state governmental entities are unknown.” It seems like this is jumping the gun. Why don’t we wait till we see what to outcome is before we pass a law to outlaw it. We don’t know what to cost is going to be. To me this is more of a political reaction. Lets pass a law supposedly banning or deny the government authority to penalize. I would be concerned about any law that penalize citizens. Obvious to force people to have insurance is no different then the state forcing people you got to have auto insurance. We’re required by law to have insurance and if we don’t have auto insurance we are penalize for it. The concept is the same. The cost of health care is borne by everyone. Just like in automobile accident, if I go out and have and accident and I don’t have insurance, the public end up paying the cost of that accident. If this law is unconstitutional, the Supreme Court will strike it down and the Court has been known to do that. Rosseveltt tried to use the Commerce Clauses to ease the suffering of depression. With congress, he passed a lot of social programs. But the Supreme Court, rightfully or wrongfully, ruled that he overreached his authority to deal with the issue. I will defer to the Supreme Court. Having said that, I just want to say this current Supreme Court would strike it down. This Current Court seems to be less proactive. If it’s not in the enumerated in constitution we’re not going to allow it to happen. So I think the proponents have a better chance at getting this strike down in the Supreme Court. It seems this gives opponents of health care another issue to raise in court because if it doesn’t violate federal law, it violate state law and they can say we have a law on the books that says you can’t do this. If the Supreme Court ruled that is this (the federal mandate) stood the test of the Commerce clause, then this (the prop. C) would be unconstitutional. This is like when the federal government passed the Civil Rights Act and states passed laws saying the federal government can’t force restaurants to let blacks in. When the Supreme Court ruled that that the federal government has that authority, that state laws was preempted. So I think this could be preempted. How could the state prevent the federal government form tax? If the federal government is relaying on the state to enforce the law, you could deny the state from enforcing the law. But the state can’t deny the federal government form enforcing the law.

Damien: You studied federal Nullification in school?

Gaylard: think about what you’re saying here. A state cannot nullify federal law. That’s the whole premise of succession. The whole idea the states left the union was the state can defy federal law. That whole issue was put to rest with the Civil War. The states that came back into the Union said we are gong to follow federal law.

Damien: When you mention this is comparable to auto insurance, the opponents argue that is different then auto insurance because a) the states are doing it and b) you don’t have to drive.

Gaylard: One the states are doing it. Lets say I move and travel somewhere, my insurance should be the same it should be portable. The other question was you don’t have to drive. Well that is true you don’t have to drive. There is never a perfect analogy. Brown v. Board of Education was decided on the fact education if a federal issue. It involved the equal protection clause.

Changes to Miranda rights

Sherry Colb blogs about the recent Supreme Court ruling on Miranda rights. In the Case of Warden v. Thompkins, the Court ruled that when a suspect is being interrogated and wants to insert the right to remain silent, the suspect have to tell the interrogators. In spite of staying silent for most of the time, the police interrogated the suspect for 3 hours until he confessed. Colbs explain the two different views on the right to remain silent. On one view, it’s only the right not to respond, even if the suspect is sitting in the interrogation room for hours. The other view is the right not to respond. The Court believe it’s only the right not to respond. It the suspect wants to remain silent, the suspect have to tell the interrogators that.
I’m diagnosed with autism and I’m concerned what effect this would have on people how are diagnosed with mental disease. Growing up in special needs school, I met a lot of people who could be pressured to talk. In spite of the ruling, I believe every police department should recognize the right not to be interrogated.
In other News, Missouri voters would have the chance to express how they feel about a portion of Obamacare, the mandate to get health insurance. On August 3rd, the would have a chance to vote for Prop. C, stating the federal government does not have the authority force people to get health insurance.

I'm running for State Representative of the 64th district. I am in favor of medical marijuana. I supported proposition A, a halve cents sales tax to restore, improve, and expand Metro services. I voted against the gay marriage ban in 2004. I'm pro-choice. I support school choice, low taxes, and oppose eminent domain abuse. I'm running in the Republican Primary in a Democratic district. I want my constituents to know that as State Representative, I'm willing to break ranks with the Republican Party if necessary for the betterment of the district.
I just want to say, I'm not part of the St. Louis Tea Party because they are not sensitive to the needs of my district. My message to the Republican Party is to think long and hard before embracing the Tea Party.
The Republican Party I know is the Party of Lincoln, a Party that supports school choice and stand for economic freedom. As State Representative, will work with legislators on both side of the isle to find bi-partisan solutions.

Prop. A passed

Prop. A passed with 63%. of the vote. Now Metro does not have to cut needed services. Opponents argue the tax would hurt businesses. But if people lose their jobs because they can't get to work, then employers would have to pay the unemployment tax. I will continue to support public transportation.

My goals to the district

I'm running for state representative and here are my goals:
This is what what I was thinking about today:
1. Fund Public transportation. Currently there is a ballot initiative on April 6th election that gives the St. Louis County voters an opportunity to restore and improve metro services by voting for proposition A, a half cent sales tax. I endorse Proposition A. I share the St. Louis Regional Chamber of Commerce in supporting Prop. A so people who dependent on metro service and get to school and work.
2. Since the quality of education a child gets influence the opportunities the child have as an adult, the state legislators must ensure every child have a quality education. I believe in options of parents and students in seeking the best form of education tailored to their learning type. I support charter schools and vouchers.
3. Allow the use of medical marijuana. My state representative voted against this. As State Rep, I will support the use of medical marijuana so patients can use this as an alternative to expensive pain medicine.
5. Oppose eminent domain abuse. I believe:
*Allowing only government entities to use eminent domain
*Prohibiting the use of of eminent domain for private use with certain exceptions for utilities
*Require that the taking of property be necessary for public use
*Require that the intended public use be declared at the time of the taking
*Permitting the original owners to repurchase the property if it is not used within 5 years.
6. Reform the public defenders system. As State Rep, want to ensure every defendant receives competent attorney regardless of income. Some states have a community defender system instead. Under the community defender system, the state pay a private attorney to represent the poor.

The nation remember this. This was a time when the president of the United States made a commitment to man space exploration and the United States would be take the lead. By contrast, the current our current president believe we shouldn't take the lead. The Obama administration is going to cut founds from NASA. Under he Obama plan, American astronauts would ride in other nations' spacecraft.
So instead of of taking the lead, we are going to follow the leader? No!!!
Congress, don't cut NASA because a nation that leads the world require us to lead in space. America, vote in Republican majorities this fall and vote Obama out in 2012.

Thinking about going green because you care about the environment? You better wait because you could make things worst as well a hurting the economy depending if you support the wrong public policy. In 2007, the British High Court would that Al Gore's Film had 9 significant errors. The Court ruled that the film can not be shown to children unless accomplished with notes that balance Gores bias. Liberals continue to raise concern about global worming in spite of the ruling. Recently, the United States House of Representatives passed a Cap and Trade legislation. An EPA Attorney explains what the legislation could me a mistake.

I have concerns about the legislation. I live in an area where the legislation could have a devastating effect. A lot of my neighbor live in section 8 housing and/or depend on social security. The legislation passed could increase utility rates. Lets not get me wrong, I care about the environment and I recommend steps to reduce the pollution: recycling, walking, riding a bike, using renewable energy. My concern if the liberal so-called environmentalist get their way, the environment and the economy would be damaged.
If you want to advocate a good environmental policy, first you practice energy efficiency. Next, show businesses and consumers how they can save money and be more efficient going green. A good environmental policy does not compete with business, but enhances business.

why ban smoking

Before the St. Louis County voters will be vote on a smoking ban this Tuesday, the can check out similar smoking ban in the Dutch. In Dutch, marijuana is exempt from the smoking ban.
In the Jaco Report, it was reported that there are exceptions to the proposed smoking ban. Bars and casino are among the exceptions. So the question is, what effect would this smoking ban have? If this ban pass, you still would be able to smoking in bars and other places you expect to be allow to smoke. You wouldn't be allowed to smoke at McDonald's, but you can't smoke there any way. I know, why don't we rename this Proposition Do what You are All Ready Doing Anyway Act. What a waste of time.

Can we learn from the Dutch

Can America Learn from the Dutch?
While the Dutch is feeling the recession pain, their unemployment rate is only 3.5%. By contrast, European unemployment rate is 20% with United States almost at at 10%. The Expatica credit the Dutch success to low bureaucracy.
In France, employees are protected against dismissal with strict legislation. These cause France to have high unemployment rate. The Netherlands don't have such legislation. Instead, the Dutch reap the reward from flexibility. A lot of Netherlands citizens work part-time and the government does not interfere in the workforce. America can learn form this. Small government does not mean no government.

maybe we should take 3 days to read a 1,000 page bill

Democrat Representative Baird and Minnick joined a Republican bi-partisan effort to allow for 72 hours to read the bill before voting on it. According to the Hill, if 218 signed a petition for a 72 hour grace period, it would there would be a 72hr mandate whether Polosi likes it or not. So contact you representative and an ask them to support the petition. But the real news is how it is reported in the media. The Hill's head line is "Baird, Minnick want colleagues to sign discharge petition". The Huffington Post' headline is "Pat Roberts Pleads for Three days so lobbyist can read the health care legislation." The Huffington Post uses Robertson's words to make it seem like he is trying to do a favor for insurance lobbyist. Fox News report it as, "Congressmen Push Bipartisan Bill Mandating Posting of Legislation Online Before Votes". Fox explains that the petition would require bills be posted online in searchable format 72 hrs before voting on it.

Hi all,
this is my first post since my tripe from Europe. I'm going to start of with health care since this is the big issue. I want to turn you attention to HR 3200. This is the recent health care legislation that was approved by the House Energy and Commerce Committee. Title II Subtitle B is where it briefly talks about a public health plan, but it doesn't got in to a lot of detail. As of now, my only objection to a public health plan is the subsidize to the public plan. If the public plan would receive no subsidize, no government financial help and compete like a private plan, then I would have not objection. But I plan that can reduce their price because of government subsidize would not be fair private insurance and would lead to government monopoly.
Next I want to turn you attention to Title IV A) part III Sec.401. This is a Tax on individuals with out health insurance. If you don't pay your taxes, you could be arrested. So if an individual can be arrested for being without health insurance. This are my concerns with this health insurance plans. I'm prochoice. I believe its women's right to have an abortion. Thus, for me to support a individual mandate to get health insurance would me a conflict to me. There for I'm oppose to this plan.

Well,
it looks like Obama's Hopeful dream to Change America's health-care system is starting to look like a wishful dream from a naive child. After Close critical examination, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) concluded that the plan that is currently being pushed proposed by the congressional Democrats would cost more money for
this Country. This information could be the death nail the Obama's dream. Mike Ross, Democratic Representative from Arkansas oppose the bill. He came on the record in saying that members of the Blue Dog Democratic coalition would oppose the current bill. I have been of the view that we can't improve the health-care system until he job market improve. The expansion of government programs would require an expanded tax base. With more people employed, more people can afford there own health-care insurance.

On my September 22 post of 2007, I predicted that Iran President Ahmadinejad would be voted out of office. Now the election has turned in to front page news not because Ahmadinejad lost, but because of possible election fraud.
I didn't pay attention to the election until recently when I heard on the radio that the government blocked facebook because Ahmadinejad's opponents was using it to communicate with each other. So now in post-election Iran, there's protest in the streets of the country because people did not get a fair chance to participate in the election. I urge you to read Scott Peterson's article from the Christian Science Monitor on how the election was rigged. He reports that an election official are being investigated for irregularities.
What we can learn from this that we need to pay attention to international news more. Depending on on who's the next president is, it could change the relations between the United States and Iran. Have links to international news on the right and I urge you to read them.
On the Domestic front, I am circulating a city wide ballot initiative city wide ballot initiative to decriminalize marijuana. Go to Greenliberty.us to find out more about this petition. I'm an advocate for legalization of marijuana because it a waste of law enforcement resources to follow th status quo.

Specter will be missed

Yesterday Arlen Specter switch Party, form Republican to Democrat. Specter, a five term Senator, will be seeking his sixth term next year. Specter was a Moderate Republican who stud for a strong defense and women's rights to abortion was threaten a difficult Republican Primary by Pat Toomey. Toomey and many conservative Republican in the state of Pennsylvania felt Specter was not conservative enough.
As a Moderate Republican who is actively working to see more Republican victories, I say Toomey and his conservative Allies should of sat down, shut up, and let Specter have his 6th term. Our backs are against the wall and we need all the Republicans we can get. In Some districts and states are so blue that any Republican would be better then no Republican. So I blame the conservatives for Specter's change. Moreover, Republicans need a serious revision because the Demographics, mainstream issues, and technology are changing. As an urban Republican, I'm looking for my Party to find solutions for the following issues:
--Education, in Missouri Republicans fail to pass a school choice legislation because many outstate Republicans opposed school choice. Most rural public schools don't face the same problems as urban schools. Thus, they don't understand the need for school choice.

--Prison Reform: Republicans talk about crime, we talk in terms of Zero Tolerance laws. We need to start talking about correction reform and improving the Public Defender system as well.

--Public Transportation: Historically, the Party is an an rural party, but we can depend on the rural vote alone and expect to win victories. Rural voters don't have to deal with traffic jams, smog, sidewalk, etc. Currently, the Democrats are actively involved in finding solutions and the Republicans are not. That needs to change.
If we are not willing to adapt to change, we would cease to exist.

So what does the future of the Republican look like?

Roy Blunt, U.S congressman and Father of Matt Blunt, recently announced that he would run for U.S. Senate in 2010. Robin Carnahan, our Secretary of State and Daughter of former Governor Mel Carnahan, announced that She is running as well. This race should be close. This race should be close and it's important that Blunt win this. Even if Blunt doesn't win, Republicans have changes in other states.
Illinois Democrats have a problem they need to solve before next years election, Roland Burris. If they don't solve this problem, a Republican would be a shoe-in for that seat. Despite calls for him to resign, Burris would not resign. Well, what do you expect from a guy who said yes to Blagojevich. Watch this video.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger can't run for President, but he can run for Senate. Barbara Boxer would be up for election that year. Schwarzenegger has been elected twice. Since day one, he worked across party line and sometimes balking his own party to balance the state budget.
He refused to show up at the Republican convention last year until the state budget problem was solved. We could use him in the Senate.
I look forward for the Republicans to increase there numbers in the Senate. Had there been more Republicans in the Senate, the make up of the so-call stimulus package would be a lot different. According to Michael Grabell and Jennifer LaFleur 's ProPublica articale, all the money will not go where it need to go.

Democratic push Back

It looks like Democrats are objecting to Obama's spending proposal as well as Republicans. The Democrats are objecting to the tax cuts part. They want more spending on the part of the government. In my last post, I talk about adding military spending to the infrastructure spending that Obama is proposal. Knowing Obama wants his proposal to pass with by-partisan support, here are my proposals.

Increase military spending. Spend on recruitment to insure you adults could stay employed. Don't close any bases because some rural economy depend on these bases.
Increase spending on public transpotation, public highways, and Amtrak to assure that people could access employment. Spending on transpotation will increase jobs through public works.
Across the board tax cuts. Even the rich should get a tax cut to encourage them to spend more. Give tax cradits to employers that hire unemployed.
Make the Bush tax cuts permanent and anounce it to give wallstreet a sense of sablility
extend unemployment. Spending cuts for unemployment will occur when more people are hired.

These four proposals should get by-partisan support. Republicans will get their tax cuts and Democrats will get some of their spending. It does not have to pass with John Kerry's vote, thereare 41 other Republicans to court.

In Martin Feldstien argues that increase in defense spending would help the economy in his article , Defense Spending would be Great Stimulus.
The Department of Defense is preparing for spending cuts due to the economy. Obama argues more spending for public works, like highways, would help the economy. President Eisenhower signed the Federal-Aid Highway act of 1956 that lead to the nation's highway system. Feldstien argues that defense spending sould increase as long with spending for public works. Increase in defense spending will employ people building new equipment. Alone with spending on equipment, Feldstien also argus for lax in recuitment standards to help the youth get employed.

Former Amery Chief General Sir Mike Jackson analysis the Mistakes United States made in the the conflict in Iraq. According to Jackson, United States created a security vacuum when we disbanded the Iraqi security forces. Jackson also blamed the police to de-Baath Iraq as another thing that contribute to the violence. The Baath party was the ruling party at the time of when during Operation Allied Freedom, the Military campaign that overthrow Hussein's regime.
Under Hussein's regime, no one could participate in government without being a member of the Baath party. The U.S banned Baath members form participating in the government after Operation Allied Freedom, but revolted the ban in 2008. Many critics blan the ban for preventing experience Iraqis from participating in the government.
We can't turn back the clocks of time, but we can learn form from past events. While the situation in Iraq is being solved, this is an up coming concern. The United States Nuclear Arsenal is aging. While gates insist that we need to upgrade the arsenal, congress has yet to approve upgrades. We cannot be left without nuclear arsenal. So contact you Congressional delegation and tell them to upgrade the nuclear arsenal.

Well there almost was a bailout deal, but one disagreement stopped it; Whether the big three automakers should be required to make wage reductions. Currently, American automakers wages are more then the foreign makers. Republican Senators felt its necessary to cut the labor cost of the big three so they could save money. The United Auto Workers (UAW) is dead set against it. Ford said it does not need a bailout. Chrysler and General Motors said they do. I have a thought, why don't Chrysler and General Motors restructure through bankruptcy court? I thought bankruptcy was designed for business in financial trouble and needed to be relieved of there financial responsibility?
In other news, the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) may not except Representative Elect Joseph Cao even though his district is predominately black. Cao, a Vietnamese American, felt it was a good idea to join the CBC because the black majority. The CBC has never admitted a nonblack member.

Bailout! Bailout! scandal

Well we have a lot of excitement in the news.
First let go over the good news. Republican candidate Anh 'Joseph' Cao just won election of congress in a recent run off election. Cao ran on ethics and health care reform.
Now the big news. The house just passed bill to bail out the auto industry. The vote went down party lines with most Democrats voting yes while most Republicans voting no. Democrats and Bush want wants to save jobs and the auto industry. Republicans want to save jobs and the auto industry as well, but but would rather have the same federal judges who deals with financial problems like this handle this. Mike Pence R-IN out lines the Republican alternative plan to only to assist federal judges help the auto industry. I have a thought, why not bankruptcy. I thought bankruptcy was the mechanism already to set up to handle this. Not to mention that a "Car Czar" will be created. We are creating Czars in democratic nation?
Finally, I got to mention that the Governor of Illinois spent time in jail. This is a national embarrassment for our political system. If votes continue to see behavior like this from our politicians, less voters will turn out a the polls.

On the bright side

As you all ready know, Obama is the next President, but the good news that not only the Republicans hold on the Missouri legislator, but we(Republicans) have a veto proof majority. We didn't loose too bad on the national scale. Norm Colman won reelection. But there were a lot of ballet initiatives.
Three states voted to ban gay marriage. One of the is California. This was a surprise to me and a lot of GLBT rights advocates. California is suppose to be the most progressive state in the Union. If GLBT rights can't win there, then where can they win?
California did support Obama. Supports of gay marriage bans demostrated that the can achieve their agenda regardles of who is in office.

Save jobs, save social security

In my August 24th post, explain why I'm running for congress. I explained that I'm want to increase the supply of energy we need today while encouraging renewable energy. Today I want to expand on that.
In my last post talked about policies effecting drivers when I advocated more drilling. Today I want to talk about people who use public transportation. A lot of people use public transportation because they can't afford a car or can't drive because of their disability. Cuts in public transportation could cause people to lose their jobs. I'm willing to support an increase in federal funding for public transportation to prevent cuts in public transportation. Another economic concern is social security.
It is time to start now to save social security from going bankrupt. I'm in support of allowing young workers to take their money and put in a private account, similar to and Individual Retirement Account (IRA). At the same time, we must protect low incomes seniors today. So any plan that allow private accounts must include funding for support low income seniors.
I'm a Moderate Republican. While I align my self with the party, I don't always agree with the party. I'm prochoice. I disagree with the party about women's choice, I'm hoping to find common ground in policies that prevent unplanned pregnancies in the first place. That is why I urge you to signed the put prevention first pledge.

Russian/ Venezuala ties

Okay, lets get this straight.
America tries to put a missile defense system in Poland and Russia is worried.
But Russia straighten military ties with Venezuela and there is no problem?
Russia is starting to have joint military exercises with Venezuela as well as solicit military equipment.
Someone needs to let Russia know who won the Cold War. We need a President who supports missile defense system and would not let Russia bully us or any other nations. We need McCain!!!

What happens if we strike Pakistan, like Obama wishes

we now know what Pakistan's military would do if American military would try to invade Pakistan in search of Bin Ladin, Pakistan would strike back. Pakistan announce that it would fire upon American forces if they take any offensive in action in Pakistan. Currently there are negotiation going on between American and Pakistan's leaders to resolve this issue. I hope in light of this news, Obama can rethink his idea of bombing Pakistan.

I have good news, General Petraeus are calling for up to 8,000 in troop withdrawal. After Petraeus recommended troops to be withdrawn from Iraq's western region of Anbar Province, Iraq's security forces took control of Anbar Province. Petraeus feels confident in recommeding that troop withdrawals because the surge is working. Including Anbar Province, Iraqi Security Forces have control of 14 of 18 of their provinces.

I'm running for Congress

I'm running for congress.
That is right me, Damien Johnson, is running for House of Representative of the first congressional district. As your congressional leader, I want to advocate for a comprehensive energy plan. I'm a big advocate for the environment. On a personal level, I conserve energy and I urge other to do the same. For example, I ride my bike as my main way of transportation and recycle. I think we all can recycle, but I can't expect a head of house hold to a family of 4 on the handle bars. So I'm an advocate of more drilling to increase the supply of oil and I urge you to sign the Drill here, Drill Now petition. Alone with my support of more drilling, I believe the government should encourage the use of alternative energy. I support the renew of the green tax credits. Since the passage in 2005, these tax credits wind and solar power industries have seen a growth. Without the tax credits, America could fall behind in renewable energy.

The auto industries believe that they can produce viable plug in hybrids by the year 2010. To help them along the way, tax credits should be offered to them.
We need both tax credits and increase supply of oil and we need green tax credits so Americans won't have to soli depend on oil. Green tax credits is the governments way of encouraging environmental friendly energy.
So this November when you vote for McCain, write me in.

Polish support for Missile Defense

In light of the recent Russian aggression, support for a Missile Defense system has grown. In to a recent poll, 58% of poles support it. In 2007, only 30% support it. Russia don't want Russia to have a missile defense system. Georgia didn't want Russia to invade them, but that didn't stop Russia. The bottom line, every nation has a right to do what it takes to defend theirself and if another nation don't like it, too bad.
In other News, Pakistani President Musharref decided to resign today. He hoped Pakistan would forgive his mistakes. In a column written my Con Coughlin of the London Telegraph, Coughlin explains that as long as Musharref remained in power, the West had an ally it can rely on in the war against Terrorism. Pelosi announced that Democrats will offer a bill that would include offshore drilling when the House returns to session next month. Pelosi said the bill will also address climate control. So next month, lets see what the Democrats propose. Thank you Republicans who stayed in Washington because it looks like your protest paid off. Thank you Newt Gingrich for supporting them.
In othe News, Pakistan President Musharraf is facing impeachment charges. Musharraf has been a strong Unites States Ally againt the war on terrorism. We need to pay attention what happens here because this could effect our efforts in Afgahanistan.

Why do we need a missile defense system

During the recent conflict between Russia and Georgia, Russia fired a short range ballistic missile at Georgia. This act demonstrated the need for a missile defense system. Opponent of missile defense system would argue that America should use negotiations instead. Let me think about this:

I think there was a cease-fire called.
If a cease-fire was called, the why was Russia's tanks still rolling in to Russia?
Ooh, ooh, I know, negotiations didn't work.
So if negotiations don't work, do we use force or do we be victims and ask the world to have sympathy on us?

I prefer the former. As a nation, America has a right to defend herself. America is not the only nation that is going to have missile defense system.

Seeing the Russian aggression brought back dark memories form the past. So Poland sign a missile defense system deal with the U.S. to develop a missile defense system in Poland. As a support of missile defense system, I urge to support John McCain because he supports missile defense system. get mad at 10 or be practical? That is the question

Recently I blogged about House Republicans protesting the adjournment before getting a chance to vote on Republican bills to increase the supply of oil. On the Senate side, it appears to be a bipartisan compromise on this issue. In his August 1st press release, Senator Chambliss announced that joined with 4 other Republicans, Ben Nelsen and 4 other Democrats to form and Gang of 10 to come up with a compromised proposal. The bill will:

increase production for drilling in the Gulf of Mexico.
The the consent of the States, increase production in Virgina, the Carolinas, and Georgia.
decrease tax breaks for companies investing in renewable energy.
and increase nuclear energy.

However; some Republicans don't like this proposal. In Bobby Eberie's "Just Say No to the 'Gang of 10'",
he argues that the bill will increase government control, taxes, and put more barriers against drilling. This lead to Chambliss releasing his response to The Hill. Chambliss argues that the Republicans who oppose the compromise must not have read the proposal.
Currently there is nothing in writing on this proposal. I know because I just called Chambliss office. Since there is nothing in writing, I would like to know what are the opponents complaining about? Wouldn't it be good idea to wait to read the whole proposal until one makes a decision to support or oppose something. Currently the summaries look good to me. I like the idea that energy production would increase as well as more tax credits would be available, but I'll wait until the full proposal to come out before I support or oppose it. Finally keep this in mind, compromise is part of the game.

Answer: It looks like Kenny Hulshof will be the winner tonight and he
will do an outstanding job. As Republicans, we need to be out there
talking with folks about what our vision is for the future and how we
intend to bring people together.

Question: There is nothing much the state government can do in terms of
gas prices, but what can the state do in terms of the economy?

Answer: The two are connected. I think because of our geographic location we can be a big part of the solution nationally and for the people of our state. I think we need to find ways to put money in the pockets of Missouri farmers and businesses and hardworking families instead of Middle East dictators. We need to look at every option out there, nuclear, wind and biodiesel technologies and grow our economy out of those "Missouri" resources.

Question: What would you as a state senator propose to improve the state healthcare system?

Answer: For me this is big issue. One of the things we talk about on the campaign is meaningful health care reform. In the senate I want to be part of the dialogue. We have too many folks with out insurance in
Missouri. We need to find free market solutions that get the people the health insurance they need. There is a better way and we need to be creative and bold enough to make changes. We owe it to those without insurance and to those whose premiums are too high to take action. We need to make health care more affordable, available, and portable. Doing this also allows people who have insurance to carry it from one job to another. People will have the comfort of knowing that they will be able to take their insurance with them to their next job.

Question: What do you think about expanding the Medicaid system?

Answer: We need to focus on how to move forward. The fact of the matter is that there are people currently without health insurance. The question is what is the best way to make healthcare more available and more affordable. We need to be focused on wellness with prevention.
Let's talk about where we are going.

Question: Do you know that the Democrats are talking about restoring the Blunt cuts?

Answer: Yes, that is one of the proposals. We can all agree that there are too many people without health insurance. We need to talk about how we are going to work towards the goal of everyone in this state having
affordable health insurance so people can live healthier lives.

In other news, New Gingrich was on Capitol Hill to support the Republican protest against the congressional adjournment without debating expanding oil drilling. With $4 gas prices, the Republicans are proposing bills that would allow for more drilling. Instead of an up and down vote, the Democratic leadership decided to dodge the issue out of fear that congress, in spite of the Democrat majority.

Why conservative read conservative

When Obama sent an op-ed piece to the New York times, the Times published it. But when McCain sent an op-ed piece to the times, the times refused to published it. Obama's piece argued that he would bring the troops home within 16 months, while McCain argued that the troops would come home as Iraqi troop's strength improve. The times claim that they would published an op-ed from McCain when he lays out a plan. McCain does have a plan, it just that the liberals at the Times don't agree with the plan. Since the times feel that McCain's op-ed would impede their cause, they decided not to publish the op-ed.

This is why conservatives read conservatives. Conservatives, like another people, want to feel that their voices are being heard. When liberals in the media behave like this, conservatives feel their voices are not being heard. This is why conservatives turn to conservative news sources like Fox News. If the time thought that readers wouldn't have a chance to read McCain's op-ed, they were wrong. Not only readers read it, but op-ed got more attention not being published in the times than if the Times published it.

Troop withdraw

In light Obama's trip to the Middle East, the debate over troop withdraw has resurfaced. It started when a German Magazine quoted Iraqi's Prime Minister Nuri Al-Maliki saying that he endorsed Obama's plan to withdraw troops within 16 month. Later a spokesman for the Prime Minister said that the German paper Misquoted the Prime Minister. What Malikia said he agreed, with slight changes, with the frame; however, the determination to withdraw is based on security improvements on the ground. John McCain has been saying all along that withdraw should be based on security improvements all along. While McCain want to see troop withdraw too, he believes that if we withdraw too quickly, it could impede on security improvements. So we have both candidates want troop withdraw, but one candidate wants a public time table.

War Powers Act

Recently a panel headed by James Baker came up with a proposal called the War Powers act. The Act would required congress to give consent to the president within 30 days the next time the President commits troops. There is one thing that the panel might forgot, there is already a War Powers act. It's called the War Powers Act of 1973. It requires congress to give consent within 60 days.

I'm proud to announce my endorsement of John McCain for President of the United States. I urge you to vote for McCain because he would make sure our military is ready to secure the nation against terrorism and other threats against the nation. The first responsibility of the government is national security.

A McCain administration would be a fiscal responsible administration. Not only McCain is one of the few senators that does not take earmarks, but he least the wasteful spending on his senate website. Please pork invaders game I posted on my blog.

John McCain has a long history of reaching across party lines to find solutions. For example, he reached across party lines for find a solution to Bush's 2005 judicial nominees.

For these reasons above, I hope you vote for McCain.

In other news, supports of the Civil Rights initiative in Nebraska and Arizona collected and turned in enough signatures to put the ballot initiative on the ballot. The Civil Rights Initiative would ban discrimination or preferential treatment based on race, sex, color, and national orgin. If signatures are certified, I urge the voters to vote for the initiative because people should be hired base not their merits, not race or gender.

Just to let you know, never underestimate your enemy. I just saw a CNN report on how Obama eliminate the competion when he ran for state senate. According to the report, the Obama campaign eliminated the campetion by challenging the validity of the competion. Red more from the CNN report.

Also, there's a new controvery relating ot Obama's paster. This time it's a white prist. This is an issue because voters don't know enough about Obama. There has been no major accoumplishment by Obama. So voter judge him base on his friends, family, and pastor.

Well Well,
The deadline has past and the Civil Rights Initiative was not submitted. I, like every petitioner worked hard on this, but we would not be voting on this initiative this year. It seems like the blockers are going to have their way this time. Blockers are supporters of preferential treatment who tried to keep people from signing the petition. Some sign the petition in spite of the blocking. While the concept of blocking is free speech, the some of the blockers tactics were not.
On Earth day, I started petitioning after I got off work. I collected 15 signatures before I approached a couple to asked them to sign my petition. Blockers form the Young Voter League past out there propaganda to them. The couple signed the petition in spite of the propaganda. So the blockers became more aggressive. The blockers started to yell over me when I asked another person to sign my petition. Then it was time for me to go to church. When I started on my way to church, the blockers followed me. I told them not to follow me. They would not listen. Since I was on my bike and they was on foot, I rode off.
I don’t have to ask why the blockers don't want it on the ballet; they know that they would loose. So now I have to mover on other activism.

Hello, Hello,
my last blog was in response to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch article about me petitioning to get an initiative on the ballot that will ban preferential treatment based on race and gender in public employment, education, and contracting. This has been a problem in the past. Now I have news for you, it is not just a problem in the United States.
According to a recent British News, the Telegraph, British has banned the practice; However, there a push to repeal the ban. Similar to American proponents of these practices, British proponents argue that these practices are need to to help the disadvantaged. British opponents argue that granting preferential treatment is unfair and insulting to the disadvantage.
Ann Widdecombe, the Conservative MP and leading campaigner against all-women shortlists in Parliament, said: "In addition to being superfluous, this law would be detrimental because it suggests that women and members of ethnic minorities need special treatment."
I have a thought, if proponents of preferential treatment want to help the disadvantage, then they should help the become advantage. For example, help students of the St. Louis Public Schools learn the skills they need to go to college and get a job. The school district is in need for qualified tutors and teachers.
As for Britain, granting preferential treatment people based on race and sex could hurt their growing emigration population. Last year, Telegraph reporter Phillip Johnston reported that Britain is emigrants are moving in was Britains are moving out. Should these same proponents who want preferential treatment based on race and sex be concerned about putting the emigrants at a disadvantage?

I'm for Affirmative Action, But against Quotas

Hi my friends,

let me take the time to clear something up in regard to the petition drive that I'm participating. As reported yesterday by the

St. Louis Post-Dispatch, I was participating in a petition drive yesterday; however, the petition would not ban all Affirmative Action Programs, just the one that discriminate and grant preferential treatment. In the begininng of the petition, it reads, "The state shall not discriminate against, or grant preferential treatment to, any individual or group on the basis of race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin in the operation of public employment, public education,, or public contracting." Again, "not discriminate" or "grant preferential treatment to". The petition does not ban Affirmative Action without preferential treatment. Affirmative Action is not just quotas, it's reaching out to women and minorities. For example, if a public contractor want a diverse roster, I don't see anything wrong with the contractor my recruit at the Missouri Black Expo to recruit minorities. I'm opposed to a fixed quotas to hire a certain about of minorities. Now, my opponent is passing out flyers urging you not to sign my petition. I urge you, the educated voter, to take a look at the petition for yourself.

My voter ID proposal.

Last year the Missouri Legislator passed a voter ID law. Unfortunately the law was ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court of Missouri Weinschenk v. Missouri. I'm writing this blog to explain the difference between my proposal and the legislators'. The following is my proposal:

All Missouri voter are required to show a picture ID. A picture ID includes a state ID, a school ID, a work ID, or a U. S. passport. The idea is to put the face with the name.
If the voter fails to show up with a picture ID, the vote could vote by affidavit. To vote by affidavit, a voter could use, a voter ID card or mail sent by the local election board, a utility bill or a financial statement, library card, or any information from school with the voter's name and address on it. Before the voter votes, the voter would be given a carbon-copy of the affidavit to take to the local board of election to get a free ID. This carbon-copy of the affidavit is all the voter would need to get a free ID. As long as the voter is registered, there is no need for a birth certificate. This would only apply to registered voters.
Require identification to register to vote. I remember when this law passed, I was asking, "should we make sure the voter is eligible before showing up at the polls?" When I registered to vote at my local library when I turned 18, I had to show my library card, my insurance card, and raise my right hand and take an oath. Soliciting registration on the street should be banned. While there are a lot of well meaning people doing it, there are a lot of uninformed people doing it as well. In 2004, American Coming Together turned in thousand of fraudulent voter registration cards. This happened because they were paying people to register and the people they employed needed money. Since the commission was per voter, some were willing to open a phone book and put a name down.
Another way I think we should allow registration is through checking a box. Just like one could check a box when you apply for your driver license, Missourians should be allowed to check a box on a high school graduation or GED application, or any documents you sign relation to College, apartment and housing, healthcare, or any dealing with the state agencies. For example, you apply for an apartment, you check that box so you new landlord will turn in you information to the local board of election. This provision would allow a high school student to check a box on the graduation application to register to vote.

The legislation the Missouri legislators passed did not have provision 3 nor 4. Another differences are the solution if a voter does not have an ID. The legislation allowed people to vote provisionally. I believed voters should vote by affidavit to allow the vote to count on Election Day, not 2 weeks later. I believe if the Missouri Assembly pass my proposal, it would be upheld on appeal.

Win for Putin, Loss for Chavez

To day, Vladimir Putin's Party the United Russia won a victory in the parliamentary election (AP Barry). As I printed earlier, Putin is term limited. While he can run for two consecutive terms, he can be prime minister until he can run for president again. This election makes Putin as prime minister possible.

In other news, Venezuelan voters voted down a referendum to do away with term limits (AP James). Chavez is term limited as well and had the referendum pass, he could remain president for life. Hopefully civil liberties and the freedom of the press can return when Chavez leaves.

There is going to be an election for Prime Minister of Russia this coming May and Vladimir Putin would not be on the ballot because he is term limited. He served his two terms already. Now its time for someone new. So Russians has two choices; Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov or Chess Champ Garry Kasparov. Now lets keep in mind that Russian press and voters are do not enjoy the same freedoms as American press and voters. Although out the Putin administration, the press has been censored and anti-government protesters has continually has been arrested. Kasparov as been voicing his opposition to the Putin administration since retiring from chess in 2005. Kasparov supports civil libertis. Ivanov supports the continuation of the policies of the putin administration.

On Tuesday October 23rd, two former soldiers spoke about their experiences being gay and serving under the ‘Don't Ask, Don't Tell’ policy at Washington University.

One was the first American soldier to be injured in the Iraq war Eric Alva. He gained a lot of acclaim upon his return home and was visited by every one from Nancy Pelosi to the President. He then took the opportunity to come out and speak out about the unfairness of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.

His efforts have brought a lot of awareness to the issue.

There is a bill called the Military Readiness Enhancement Act H.R. 1246 that works to make things fair.

Yesterday the was an election in Poland. Donald Tusk of the Civic Alliance Party beat Taroslaw Kaczynski of the Law and Justice Party for Prime minister Massive win for Polish opposition. Tusk Promised to Lower taxes, to build closer ties with the European Union, and a business friendly administration. As Christian Science Monitor Columnist Robert Marquand put it, “Sunday's vote decides whether Poland turns inward, chauvinist, and authoritarian under Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski – or flowers into a more open economy and civil society, as well as a closer partner to Europe More nationalism or closer ties to Europe? . While Tusk looks forward to working with the United States, he promised to pull 900 troops out of Iraq. Sunday’s election is similar to the election of Nicolas Sarkozy French voters split on working week.

SCHIP, States Children’s Health Insurance Program, enacted in 1997 to provide health care to poor women and their mothers is now up for renewal. For years, President Bush was campaigning to expand the program; however, when the Democrat control congress passed HR 976 to expand SCHIP, President Bush vetoed it. Bush argued that HR 976 is too costly and would move the nation towards universal health care. The Republican Party is split on whether to support the president’s veto. On of the 18 Republican Senators who voted with the Democrat Senators is Christopher Kit Bond. HR 976 would increase tobacco taxes by 61 cents to pay for an additional 4 million children. Kit Bond/PressRoom/SCHIP Another Problem with the tobacco tax is there is to contradicting goals. One goal is to decrease smoking, and the other goal. If the 61 cent tax increase would reduce smoking, good. But would about the additional 4 million children that the 61 cent tax increase is suppose to fund? You see how mathematical nonsense HR 976 is? HR976 should be rewritten to exclude the tobacco tax increase or extend the current SHIP to the summer of 2009. If extended to 2009, we’ll have a new congress and hopefully, a Republican majority.

In March 23, 2005 President Bush, Canadian Prime Minister Martin, and Mexico President Fox agreed on initiative of a tri-national effort to secure all three countries against terrorism, secure both borders, and enhance prosperity. Nothing is official yet but good ideas have developed out of the talks.
One idea I like is to fight against internet threats. Recognizing that citizens in all three countries use the internet for commerce, want to work together to protect customers from spyware and illegal spam. Now General Petraeus has recommended a troop reduction to pre-surge by the summer of next year Petraeus recommendation Petraeus chart. Alternative tax or alternative confusion?

Yesterday Leonard Burman of the Tax Policy Center testified before the House Ways and Means Committee about Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT). The AMT is a provision in the Tax Code that disallows deductions and exemptions after you reach a certain income. It was enacted in 1969 when people complained to congress that 155 of the wealthy were taking advantages of the exemption and deductions to avoid paying taxes (History of Alternative_minimum_tax: click here). The problem is that the AMT was never adjusted for inflation. Burman explain to congress that a lot of tax payers, middle class tax payers, find themselves liable for the AMT Burman's statement He warns that unless something is done, more tax payers would find themselves liable to the IRS in spite of the Bush tax cutes. He advocated replacing the AMT with a surtax that would only apply to the wealthy Surtax - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
I have a better idea, flat tax. I believe we should remove the DOUs (deduction of understanding) and AMCs (Alternative Minimum Confusion) and ask people to pay 5% of earnings. One exemption, people with monthly earnings of $2,240 or less. People who are in this income range are high school and college students, seniors working at Mc Donald’s, and other people who are going month to month trying to get by. These people should be allowed to keep their money.
As for the rest of us, all we have to do is have 5% deducted from our earnings. I believe filing should be optional. We shouldn’t have to tell the government about the money we give them. And I believe that 5% would be enough to fund the government, we should make cutes to some programs and privatization to others. The less we spend to the federal government, the more we have to pay to the state government, and charities.

I have some news that might concern you; Russia is rebuilding her military strength. Russia seek to reclaim USSR military power Russia is working with China, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Tajikistan. These nations make up the six-nation Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), often referred as the club of dictators. So what does this mean? We still are going to fight the war against terrorism. Does this mean we are head to another cold war? Does Putin need to be reminded what happened last time during the last Cold War?
What all the member nations of the SCO needs to do is to work with the United States, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and other nations in the fight against terrorism and support free trade and democracies so we can have peace in Central Asia and around the world.

Obama is going to take us to World War III

In fact, it sounds like something that you’ll read from a campus news paper than a presidential candidate. Does Obama-Clown know that Afghanistan is a landlocked country and we have to flay of over Pakistan to get to Afghanistan? I bet he doesn’t even know where the county is.
Look at the map and learn about the region. You Afghanistan and Pakistan to the south. We can get to Pakistan by sea, but we have to fly over Pakistan to Afghanistan. Pakistani President Musharraf is allowing us fly over his country over the objections of his own people.
Now lets see what would happen if we attack Pakistan. First, Pakistan would fight back. So now we have to fly our troop over Pakistani’s rockets to get to Afghanistan. Since Pakistan is shooting at us, we shoot at Pakistan. Second, seeing this, India will side with us. India has been at odds at Pakistan over the region of Kashmir, so if India wins a war against Pakistan, India takes Pakistan. Third, Iran will side with Pakistan. Fourth, Israel bomb Iran. Israel, Pakistan, India, and the United States have nukes. Whether Iran have them or not, this would be the start of Nuclear War/World War III. Fortunately, there are other candidates in the Democrat Primary Democrats can choose from. No Republican in the Republican Primary is this stupid.

In 2003, Texas passed a law mandating a moment of silence to honor the American and Texas flag. Texas Parents Sue Governor The Croft family sues claiming the law is mandated school pray. This family has a history of complaints against religious-affiliated words and images in schools, having previously complained about Boy Scout rallies held during school, fliers sent home about Good News Bible Club meetings and the inclusion of "Silent Night" and a Hanukkah song in holiday concerts, according to report.
Since we are in the Suing spirit, what about a law suit against political opinions. For example, suing to keep politicians from speaking at graduations where students attend to celebrate a completion of degrees not to listen to political opinion. How about the liberal bias in our schools. I’m not just talking about at the college level; I’m talking about at the elementary and secondary education as well. I remember listening to Maxine Waters’s speech at my GED graduation. Her speech was nice except for the part when she criticized John Ashcroft. I voted for Ashcroft and no one heard my rebuttal. I feel if it is okay for someone to sue base on religious objection, it’s okay to sue for political objection.

Also, Congress passed H.R.3093. In this bill, funding would be suspended needed to enforce the 11 to 12 prison sentence of Border Patrol Agents Ramos and Compean. This bill attempts to do what President Bush is suppose to do, pardon them. While I support the bill's intentions, the bill is unconstitutional. America pay attention, this is what happens when we have a president that refuse to enforce the law and protect the boarder.

CAMPAIGN FINANCE ALERT

The Missouri Supreme Court on July 19 unanimously struck down a state law allowing unlimited campaign contributions and other changes to our campaign finance laws. This decision means that the state’s campaign contributions limits and laws are now similar to those during the 2006 election cycle. It is imperative that Missouri Republicans stay within the court-ordered campaign contribution limits and abide by the rules in place during 2006. The Supreme Court has not ruled on whether contributions already made will have to be returned. We will keep you updated as the issue develops. According to the President's July 12Th Assessment Report, Iraqi government and security force have met 8 out of 18 Benchmarks. Of the 8 that have been met

Form a constitutional review committee and complete review
Enact and implement legislation on procedures to form semi-autonomous regions
Support Baghdad Security by establishing political, economic and media security
Provide 3 trained and independent Iraqi brigades
Make sure that Baghdad security does not help terrorist or insurgents
Establish a plan for joint security stations
Protect minority rights
Allocate $10 billion for reconstruction

Of the ones not met

enact de-ba'athifications legislations
enact legislations that would ensure equal distribution of hydrocarbon
form election commission- mixed result
enact amnesty legislation
enact strong disarmament legislation
give Iraqi commanders the authority to make decision without interference
make sure the Iraqi security force is enforcing the law

Buchanan Sees a Hillary Make-over

Bay Buchanan-Former Treasurer of the United States-CNN Commentator, Author of The Extreme Makeover of Hillary Clinton had a book signing at Barnes and Noble in Manchester. A small crowd accompanied by robust spirits was at the book signing..
She began by outlining the basis for her book. She started of looking at Sen. Clinton’s reputation as a moderate. This she feels is a myth. She sighted many examples of why she felt Hillary Clinton is not a moderate and is not cut out to be President of the United States. She also spoke of the research process she went through. She noted that her sources were taken from both the left and the right. She said she felt Sen. Clinton was dishonest and sighted some examples that were personal in nature. She took issue with Clinton’s Senate record. She accused her of not standing up for her points of view and flip-flopping. There was a question and answer session at the end of the talk. The question one heard on more than one occasion was who could beat Hillary. After some back and forth she gave several answers. Her picks range from Mitt Romney, who she said could raise the money to Fred Thompson. Soon she was ready to leave traveling all over for a world wind book tour.

Down with the N-word

I hope this is the start of a new trend. Recently the NAACP held a funeral for the N-word. The NAACP is trying to get rappers, black stars, and every day back people to stop using the word. An Interview With:

Sherman Parker-Former State Representative, and founder of an African American Republican Group

How did you get interested in politics?

SP: I grew up around politics. The news was always on in my house. I loved current affairs. I never ran for any office in high school or college.
In high school I went to Boy State and met Bob Holden and Vince Shamel.
I caught the political bug.

How did you get your start?
SP: My first job ever was for the City of St. Louis City Hall. I got to sit in on aldermanic meetings and got to meet the alderman and the mayor. The only thing was, I was a Republican and I knew they were all democrats.

So, next I did an internship with Senator Kit Bond in college. I was going to the University of Vermont which is very progressive. I made lifelong friends there and pledged Delta PSI. Then I worked for Katherine Hanaway...

You are a Republican and you believe more African Americans should be Republicans. What does the Republican Party have to offer African American people?

SP: I believe that there needs to be a balance, and that African Americans need to be represented in both parties so our voices are heard no matter who is in power.

I believe that Republicans have something to offer African Americans in terms of educational reform, and economic development. For example, for subsidies that help people renovate buildings and start small businesses.

One issue that you seem to be concerned about is domestic violence, what got you interested in this issue? Do you have a plan to combat domestic violence and can you give me some details on it?

Without going into too many details mine as in many families we had our own run in with domestic violence. I was contacted by a constituent who was involved in a domestic violence incident and the police came to break it up and let her husband leave with his firearms. If there is a drug bust and and the police see guns when they come to arrest people they take every thing but not with domestic violence. I wrote a bill to close the loophole that allows abusive spouses to keep their firearms when they are removed from a domestic dispute. I don’t think it will ever be passed in Missouri. There is more grand standing than problem solving.

Another issue you feel is important is health care. What is wrong with the U.S. health care system that needs fixing?

SP: It is too expensive; there are 46 million uninsured, and its not so high quality.

What do you think we should do about it?

SP: I like the Massachusetts plan. I think the states will be a testing ground. There are new things that Governor Matt Blunt is doing. I think we should cover the young

One popular issue is national security? Are we safer than we were at 9/11? What do you feel still needs to be done?

SP: We are safer than we were at 9/11, but we need to secure the borders, North and South. The Canadian border needs a great deal of work. We need a troop presence, border stops.

Do you plan to run for office again?

SP: Yes, I plan to run again.

What are some of your latest initiatives?

SP: An African American Republican group, Missouri Spectrum.

Currently if employees want to Unionize, they would have to vote for it through a secret ballot supervised by the federal government. Democrats proposed to change the law to allow employees to vote but not allow secret ballot. This pill would take away the privacy that every voter has a right to, the right to vote in secret with out intimidation. Senator McConnell said it best,"Republicans will remind our constituents about the fact that Democrats proposed to strip workers of their voting rights." Yes we will. I have nothing against Unions. I believe in voting rights. Remember how the Democrats claim that voter ID laws would disenfranchise the poor and elderly? How could Democrats come up with this proposal. Does the Democrats consider Unions more important than voting rights?

fair background checks without infringing on 2nd Amendment

Yesterday the U.S. House passed a Bill sponsored by Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY). Normally I would oppose bills by McCarthy, but his bill is reasonable. As we heard, the shooter at VT shouldn't been about to acquire a firearm because he was court ordered to a hospital. Unfortunately, the NICS (National Instant Criminal Background Check System) didn't pick up this information. Under McCarthy's pill, the NICS would be able to do so. This bill has support of the NRA http://www.nraila.org/Legislation/Read.aspx?ID=3097. This bill moves to the Senate.
